Catch 2

Catch 1

She - smokes weed upon waking, at lunch, and with a couple glasses of wine at night - has moved to Deming relatively recently with her 17-year-old SON from a Great Lakes state in an attempt to remove him from an environment that has him falling through the cracks due mostly to his increasing addiction to fentanyl. Another motivator is that SON'S FATHER is in prison for grand theft auto and manslaughter in said Great Lakes state and coming up on the parole hearing that could (and will) release him. We meet Son's Father in a prison softball game in which he is goaded to take the at-bat in which he hits a tremendous home run that literally leaves The Yard (and maybe lands in the back of a moving truck).

Son played baseball but was cut due to drug use and delinquency, accelerating his downward turn. Our Man in Seattle played professional baseball, including a few seasons in the Majors, his career cut short by injury that exacerbated the drinking he'd been doing since high school. Son's Father had a similar baseball career arc and in fact had a minor league at-bat against Our Man in which Our Man hit Son's Father with a pitch, in retaliation for an earlier similar incident involving different players, setting off an on-field brawl they will revisit when they (of course) meet again.
